Oportun (OPRT) Jumps 29.6% on Return to Revenue Growth

By Himma Editorial 3 min read

Oportun Financial stock jumped 29.6% on November 4, 2026 after Q3 revenue grew 3%, GAAP net income rose to $22.9 million and guidance was raised.

Oportun Financial (Nasdaq: OPRT) shares were up 29.6% in midday trading on November 4, 2026, the session after the consumer lender reported third quarter 2026 results and raised its full-year outlook. GAAP net income (profit under standard US accounting rules) rose to $22.9 million from $5.2 million a year earlier, as revenue grew for the first time since the fourth quarter of 2023.

What Oportun Financial reported

Metric This period A year earlier Change
Total revenue $246M $239M +3%
GAAP diluted EPS $0.45 $0.11 +$0.34
Adjusted EPS $0.51 $0.39 +$0.12
Adjusted EBITDA $56M $41M +37%
Annualized net charge-off rate 10.6% 11.8% -121 bps

Adjusted EPS is earnings per share excluding items such as stock-based compensation. Adjusted EBITDA is a similar profit measure before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization. The net charge-off rate is the yearly share of loans written off as unlikely to be repaid, and a basis point (bp) is one hundredth of a percentage point. The 10.6% rate was the lowest since the third quarter of 2022.

Guidance (the company's own forecast) for full-year 2026 is now total revenue of $955 to $960 million, a net charge-off rate of 11.6% plus or minus 10 basis points, and Adjusted EPS of $1.60 to $1.70, which the company said reflects 21% growth at the midpoint. Originations, the value of new loans made, rose 12% to $572 million. Cost of debt fell 193 basis points to 6.1% after Oportun repaid $68 million of corporate debt. One offset: management now expects full-year operating expenses to rise by a low single digit, rather than stay flat, due to faster loan growth and severance costs.

Why the stock rose 29.6%

The rise was about six times a typical day's swing for the stock. The company said its results beat its own guidance for revenue, Adjusted EBITDA and net charge-offs. It also paired a higher earnings outlook with lower expected credit losses, which addresses the main risk for a lender serving borrowers with limited credit histories.

What to watch next

  • Fourth quarter 2026 results against guidance of $247 to $252 million in revenue and $49 to $54 million in Adjusted EBITDA

  • Progress on Oportun Forward, the new plan to simplify the core lending business

  • Early impact of new CFO Bill Franklin, retail chief Bernardo Martinez and product chief Garrett Hope
