Galleri is GRAIL's blood test that screens for many cancers at once, and it now brings in nearly all revenue. Development services revenue, from work done for partners, dropped to $0.3 million from $3.4 million, which held total growth to 4%.
Costs rose faster than sales. Sales and marketing spending climbed to $41.7 million from $25.5 million, and the cost of running screening tests rose to $22.0 million from $15.9 million. Adjusted EBITDA is earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation, with items such as stock-based pay also removed. Adjusted gross margin is the share of revenue left after direct test costs, on a similar adjusted basis.
Why the stock fell 16.2%
The drop was about one and a half times the size of a typical day's swing for the stock. The clearest pressure point is the gap between volume and revenue: tests grew about 24% but Galleri revenue only 14%, and CEO Josh Ofman credited "promotional pricing initiatives" for part of the momentum. Net loss per share narrowed to $2.21 from $2.46, but only because the average share count rose to 46.8 million from 36.1 million while the total loss grew.
